The tour begins on the museum terrace before the awesome sight of St Peter’s Basilica and Michelangelo’s bronze-gilded sphere atop its dome, glimmering in the low sun, proceeding fittingly onto some of the most precious sculptures history has ever produced. Observe marble in motion on the muscles of Laocoön, a Trojan priest battling sea serpents; and the first century (BCE) Belvedere Torso.
