Our Colosseum Underground & Ancient Rome Tours begin on the north-west side of the Roman Forum - probably the world’s most important archeological site - under the glare of the imposing Colosseum. The Arch of Septimius Severus is our gateway, the first we’ll visit of only three remaining triumphal arches in Rome. We’ll visit the Temple of Caesar, built upon the very spot of his cremation following his assassination on the Ides of March in 44 BCE.
The Roman Forum is for many, the most wondrous sight to behold in all of Rome, but there’s more! Exiting the Forums under another triumphal arch - that of Titus, built to celebrate the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans (and in modern times, chained in reverence to the victims of the Shoah) - you’ll continue up the Palatine Hill to the dwellings of emperors.
Finally we descend into the great Colosseum itself, one of the official seven man-made wonders of the world and the most unmistakeable sight in the Eternal City. Tours & Tours offers off-limits access to the first and second levels: the Colosseum dungeons, the animal pens and ancient mechanical elevators that bear testament to the ingenuity and ambition of the Roman Empire.
