Florence, famous for its beautiful architecture, artfulness and culture, and is magnificent yet quaint with lots to see and do… But hang on, what about food? If you like meat, you must try one of Florence’s specialities; its enormous and delicious T-bone steak, Bistecca alla Fiorentina.
This dish can be found in many restaurants in Florence but look out for those that specialize in this unique plate. Traditionally, the stake should be from the Chianina cow, a Tuscan breed; however, as there are not plentiful stocks to feed the thousands, you can also find the steak at a cheaper price taken from other breeds.
Bistecca alla Fiorentina is so big it’s usually shared with at least one other person. Restaurants of Florence serve this juicy steak by the kilo, and is cooked rare from 3 to 5 minutes each side. Don’t dare to ask the locals to overcook the steak as the Florentines will turn their noses up at you. The Bistecca alla Fiorentina is supposed to be rare, and juicy, and once you have tried it you will never want your meat overcooked again.
