Janiculum Hill

For a fantastic opportunity to see and take pictures of a scenic view of central Rome, visit the Janiculum Hill which is second tallest in Rome. From here you can gaze upon breathtaking views of the historical center of Rome, and can clearly view its fascinating architecture with its bell towers and domes.

Monte Mario

Talking of hills, if you wish to visit the tallest of Rome, you should visit Monte Mario. Here you will have a spectacular view of the city, and there is also an astronomical observatory. From an area called ‘Zodiac’, you can enjoy a south west view of the city’s main architectural monuments.

Pincio Terrace

The Pincio Terrace forms part of Villa Borghese, which in itself is well worth a visit, being one of the biggest parks in central Rome, and also home to the Borghese Gallery. From the terrace you will have a spectacular view from above Piazza Del Poppolo, of which you can gaze over the historic center.

The Orange Garden

Located on the top of the Aventine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, The Garden of the Oranges (Giardino degli aranci) is a beautiful orange tree garden, with a fantastic view of St. Peter’s Dome famously surrounded by the typically tall pine trees of Rome. If you manage to visit during sunset, you will have an even more spectacular view of the dome, on fire with orange skies.

The Dome of St. Peter’s Basilica

Last but not least, if you visit St. Peter’s Dome on a clear day, you will have your breath taken away with the view. You can clearly see St. Peter’s square below with its Egyptian Obelisk at the center, and you can gaze out far to the distance capturing the beauties of the city. To reach the top, you can either climb all 551 steps, or take the elevator which skips the first 320 steps, but you will have to climb the dome with its remaining steps by foot.
