Sperlonga
Sperlonga beach has to be the most beautiful beach near Rome, surrounded by magnificent cliffs which act as the perfect shelter from the weather. The picturesque town of Sperlonga is accessible by public transport or car, and its beautiful beach is a 10 minute walk down a long set of stairs. Find yourself a good spot, and remember that it is worth paying for sunbeds and umbrellas as the Romans do!
Santa Marinella
Just 45 minutes on the train from Rome, find the beautiful beaches of Santa Marinella, a seaside town also host to some wonderful seafood restaurants! You can sunbathe here for free or rent sunbeds and umbrellas if you wish to splash out!
Santa Severa
Not so far from Santa Marinella, find Santa Severa with its medieval castle, Roman ruins, and beach! This is a free beach, whereas you will find that most of the best beaches in Italy have rows of beach beds to rent… Be sure to bring a beach umbrella and towels, or alternatively will find them for sale there.
Ostia Beach & Cancelli
Ostia is the closest coastal town to Rome, and part of Commune di Roma (Rome council). A train from the center takes half an hour. Beaches are plentiful in Ostia center, however, if you take a bus 15 minutes South of Ostia you will find the Cancelli, where the beaches are less crowded, and situated in sand dunes.
